THINGS TO DO
There is lots to do around Porthallow and on the Lizard Peninsula. Why not explore the South West Coastal Path that passes right outside Upper Deck, or take to the waters from the beach on our doorstep? Or why not have a bite to eat in one of our incredible local cafés and pubs? We have popped together some of our favourite places and things to do below.
The Beach.
The quiet beach is owned and cared for by the resident villagers. The beach is stony and good examples of ‘Soap Stone‘ are numerous.
The bay is quiet and peaceful with good rock pooling, and at low tide a stroll around the coast to some quiet coves is highly recommended (but not for the less mobile due to some essential rock scrambling). On calm days visiting seals, basking sharks, dolphins and sunfish can be spotted in the bay. Dogs are allowed on the beach and bins are provided for any doggy do’s!
Porthallow is the halfway point of the South West Coastal Path which passes right through the village, heading up steps in either direction to some spectacular views from Nare Head across the Helford River to Falmouth Bay.
There is a village hall that has activities ranging from ‘Film Night’ to yoga, Pilates and special cream tea afternoons.
The Five Pilchards pub is excellent for lunchtime snacks and evening meals. With its own beer garden and a lovely roaring fire in winter.
The beachside café is handy for snacks and ice creams and it also does a great Sunday roast.
The best fried breakfast can be had at Fat Apples Café, just a short stroll out of the village, and also has a few deli items and a gift shop.
